Several of the articles on this site were written when I was a member of This is By Us (TIBU). It was a website where writers could post their work and get feedback on their articles from other writers. I was with TIBU for about a year when the owners shut the site down for reasons that I still do not fully understand, but luckily I kept all of my posts.
For some reason I seem to be a vortex for bizarre happenings. Usually I’m not directly involved, but I’m often present when people say or do strange or funny things. Being a writer, I do what comes most naturally to me.
Enjoy!
A Different Kind of Shock and Awe this is a true story, except for the names of the people involved.
Dim Sum Magic Mushrooms and Cow Manure is a semi-serious piece I wrote about a conversation I overheard, maybe back in 2009.

Is My Co Worker a Serial Killer? was written a few years ago, when I was working elsewhere. All of the names in the piece have been changed to protect the guilty parties, but I swear that the facts of the story are absolutely true. I wouldn’t believe it either, if I hadn’t lived it.
Christmas Luncheon at Work was written around the same time as the serial killer article. I really hated that job. . .
My Father’s Epic Battle a true story about my Dad and an obsession he had for a time.
My Secret Vice - don’t you judge me.
Why I Hate Shopping for Footwear this was written several years ago, and tells the story of a misadventure in shopping.
You’d Think This Was Obvious. . . was based on a real incident that I had with a co-worker several years ago. “Danielle” is a fake name I came up with to protect my former co-worker’s privacy.
Unintentional Irony in the Subway - another conversation I overheard.
A Lie My English Teacher Told Me is about an insane instructor I once had.
Confessions of a Non-Hugger explains how difficult life is for those who grew up in unhuggy cultures when they encounter huggy people as adults.
When Numbers Dance is a very short service article I wrote to describe symptoms of the learning disability dyscalculia.
My First Time - it rocked my world, and still does to this day.
